Student Assistant Applications

If a student wants to apply to for the work-study positions at Circulation, please have them scan the QR code kept behind the desk. If that doesn't work, paper applications are also available.

EMERGENCIES

Security Gates

Security Gates

  • There are security gates inside the main library entrance and inside the door to Sylvia's.
  • If the gates go off as someone's passing through them and you know they haven't checked anything out, say something to them.
    • You can ask them if they have a used textbook or item from another library in their bag.
    • If they say yes, offer to desensitize the item for them so they don't keep setting off the gates.

Charging Locker

If someone has locked something in one of the charging lockers can't get it open again:

  • Let a library staff member know and they'll take care of it.
  • If it's an evening/weekend and no library staff members are present, contact Security and they should be able to open the locker.

  • Make sure there's no "s" after "http"

Library Alarms

Alarm Panels

There are two different alarm panels right inside the library's main entrance.

  • The Simplex panel beeps at random intervals throughout the day. This doesn't mean anything is wrong.
  • This panel is connected to the fire suppression system in the basement.
  • If it ever beeps and doesn't stop for more than 15-30 seconds, go around the desk and press "Alarm Silence" on the panel.

The other panel is connected to an emergency alert system with stations where people can request assistance throughout the library.

  • Very few people are aware of these stations so this panel almost never goes off.
  • If it does, go around the desk and follow the instructions on the panel to turn off the alarm.

Emergency Exit Alarm

If someone leaves through an emergency exit, they'll set off an alarm.

  • The SimpliSafe alarm keypad right next to the lights panel controls this alarm.
  • The note next to the keypad has instructions for turning off this alarm.

If you're on the phone and need the caller to wait, put them on hold.
