Boolean Searching

aka Logical Operator

In searching and database querying, logical operators are often used to describe the desired data. For example, the query cat OR dog will return all documents that contain the word cat as well as all documents that contain the word dog.

Searching the Catalog

Performing the search in the catalog is the easiest way to demonstrate this.

  • For instance, on Business Source Premier, performing an Advanced Search utilizing two of the boxes for key words or terms that you're searching is performing a search using Boolean commands.
  • You're searching for "INSERT BUSINESS WORD HERE" AND "INSERT ANOTHER WORD HERE" in the boxes. You'll have to provide the proof for this part.
