Welcome to the University of Dubuque Archives Libguide. Here you will find helpful information pertaining to UD history, Presbyterian history, and Iowa history. To Know:

-UD yearbooks (The Key) are all digitized on Digital UD, there are also print copies locked in the archives, and a complete run of print copies is shelved in reference, Call#: Ref LD 1731 .D7655 .

-Early school catalogs shelved in the publication aisle of archives by year have indexes with student names and hometowns in the back.

Child of the Church:

Child of the Church gives a comprehensive history of the University of Dubuque.

You can find a copy located here: REF LD 1731 .D7652 S77 2008.

  • Van Vliet School (1852-1864) 
  • German Theological School of the Northwest (1864-1870) 
  • German Theological School of the Presbyterian Church of the Northwest (1870-1891)  
  • German Presbyterian Theological School of the Northwest” (1891-1911) 
    • and German Presbyterian College (1905-1911) 
  • Dubuque German College and Seminary (1911-1916) 
  • Dubuque College and Seminary (1916-1920)  (**Around this time Loras College was also using the name "Dubuque College" - Some newspapers refer to UD as the “Delhi Street” institution and to Loras as the “14th St. institution”.)
  • University of Dubuque (1920-    )
